Indivisible announced its plans to officially enter the August 8 Ohio ballot race to continue and broaden support of activists working to vote down Issue 1, a measure that would make it harder to get a citizen-led initiative on the ballot and raise the threshold for amending the state constitution.
We thank Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin for marking up Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act today, but we agree with the 29 Indivisible groups who sent a letter to Chairman Durbin urging him "not to stop there." Congress has a constitutional duty to perform oversight over the Court and reform it as necessary; refusing to do so only emboldens corruption.

To ensure a fair and equitable process, Justice Thomas will diligently review each contribution and consider its persuasive power in determining his stance on cases.
We urge President Biden to continue the current pause on student loan payments implemented during the pandemic, move quickly to identify another legal path to administer student debt relief, and cancel the debt as soon as possible before the Supreme Court has the chance to attack borrowers again. And, most importantly, we urge Congress to acknowledge the Court as the threat it is, conduct rigorous oversight, and move with urgency to support and pass the Judiciary Act, and add four seats to the bench.
This case—which should never have been taken up by the Court—was never about websites. Instead, it was an opportunity for the Court’s ultra-conservative justices to assault Americans’ fundamental right to live authentically without fear of discrimination.
If Kevin McCarthy wants this bill to pass, it’s on him to prove that he has the promised Republican votes. If progressive votes are needed to pass this bill, then progressives will be ready to quickly land legislative improvements to earn them. That’s how governing works.

Our coalition applauds Senator Ed Markey and Representatives Jerry Nadler, Hank Johnson, and Adam Schiff for reintroducing the Judiciary Act of 2023, a crucial piece of legislation that would restore balance to our current out-of-control Supreme Court by increasing the number of justices from 9 to 13.
